The presents have been opened, the stomach stretching meal has been consumed and the mountain of washing up has been scaled now all you have to do is wait for the influx of New Year New Me facebook status updates to appear!
Generally this means new years resolution and by far the most common is to join the gym and shed that lovely winter blubber have work so hard and making, but wait, up until now you thought gym was that guy down the pub who's a little too handsy!
How to get started with the gym is harder than you most might think, for a start it takes a certain degree of confidence to put your none super model figure out on display for all those devout followers of the iron temple to gawp at.
Step 1: Go see your doctor.
Before any big changes with your body you should go see your doctor to make sure everything is ticking over nicely, particularly if you have any long term health issues.
Step 2: Find a friend!
It doesn't matter if they know what they are doing in the gym or not as long as they go regularly and will help encourage you to go and a friendly familiar face is always a comfort.
Step 3: Buy some gym gear.
You don't need to buy mega expensive clothes for the gym, you just need something you feel comfortable in. There is no point in splashing out on the latest must have compression gear when you feel like Shamu the whale every time you pour yourself into it.
Just a tee shirt, trainers and some track suit bottoms will do and the more confident you get with your body the skimpier your gym gear will become, I mean if you have got good results why not show them off a little bit! Go dark with your colours, not only will it make you look slimmer it will also find your sweat patches.
Step 4: Take a picture.
A before picture is a great tool to see your results, you will feel a difference before you see a difference.
I would say take another picture in 6 weeks time so you can see a real difference. I posted my before picture on instagram as it is not as personal to me as facebook but it's out there online and gave me more of a reason to work hard and change my body.
Step 5: If in doubt, ask!
Your in the gym now and trying to use a barbell as back massage and gaining some funny looks, now is the time to ask for some help if the gym's staff haven't already led you away for your own safety!
Most Personal Trainers will offer free taster sessions and I would say take them up on their offer, even if you have no intention of paying for sessions in the future, tell them what you are looking to achieve and let them do the thinking for you. Don't feel guilty about taking the free session, if it's good then you can tell other people about them and help drum them up some business through word of mouth.
Step 6: Have fun!
There is no point in trying to do something you hate. If running isn't your thing swim, if classes don't float your boat then get a one on one session with a PT. Find what fits for you and stick with it.

Christmas Fitness Game!
I am sure you will rush downstairs tomorrow morning, eager as a beaver ready to savage the lovely wrapped presents under your pine or plastic tree if you can't deal with the needles like me!
But we all know some gifts are just a bit predictable so in order for you to get a head start on those Christmas calories here's a game for you to play.
Squats for socks:
I love getting new socks but let's face it they are a Christmas cliche and for that you go to squat.
5 Squats for every pair guys!
Burpees for selection boxes:
Half panic buying half stocking filling desperation, you have to earn these treats and what more of an enjoyable way than a good old fashioned Burpee?
1 Burpee for every chocolate bar in the selection box
Make a stink for Lynx :
This is a bit more of a blanket one, if you get some sort of deodorant/ shower gel set then you better work up a sweat!
10 press ups per set
Alcohol:
Everything alcoholic that gets opened means you could probably do with some self reflection before downing it all come New Years Eve and ruining some lives!
Plank for 30 seconds.
Tin of Chocolates:
If you unwrap a tin or box of chocolates then you are in trouble!
2 Burpees followed by 5 Squats followed by 2 Press ups
Thanks to my loved ones kindness I have to blast out 7 burpees, 5 squats, 12 press ups and a 1 minute plank!
If you feel this is too easy or too hard for you than give it a tweak and if you plan on playing again next year getting planning your gifts now!
I would like to say Merry Christmas to you all and thank you for checking out my blog and sharing it, I do this in my spare time as a hobby and it's great to see so many people have taken an interest.

Muscle Mousse: Hot, Chilled and Frozen
You might not have noticed if you haven't been following my recipe page, that I was sent a pouch of Muscle Mousse to review and highlight as an ingredient to be used in baking.
To add to this I am writing this post to tell you about Chocolate Muscle on it's own with the twist of reviewing it hot, frozen and chilled
First the hot, seen as I am waiting for the Mousse to chill and freeze!
I made a cup of Muscle Mousse hot chocolate, first with water which didn't exactly get rave reviews.
Then I made it with milk which tasted a lot like Horlics but it make it really enjoyable I added some Jordon's Skinny Syrup, I would avoid using boiling water to avoid the drink from curdling so instead microwave it for about 2 minutes. I have written a review on Jordon's if you fancy a gander!
Not bad for a product not being sold as a hot drink!
Next we have Muscle Mousse as the muscle mousse gods intended chilled, like Bob Marley on a warm summer evening.
The muscle mousse instructs you to make it with water, I feel that this is a trap that must be avoided!
I much prefer it when it's made from milk. The flavour isn't really strong but nice enough.
I know it's cold outside but that doesn't stop ice cream sales being consistent all year round so in the freezer the muscle mousse went, plus Frozen stuff is in this year so if you have a little Elsa about you can serve her up some protein gains!
I didn't bother trying it with water see I wasn't a fan of my make shift hot chocolate or chilled mousse when I made it water.
I quite liked the frozen muscle mousse, more so than the chilled version and feel like I have discovered a frozen protein dessert that is cheaper and just as enjoyable as Whey Hey protein ice cream.
I wish I could of written a more enthusiastic post but I think my sugar addiction may of affected my ability to properly enjoy Muscle Mousse.
Great to bake with though! The only chocolate in my brownies came from the Muscle Mousse and everyone I gave them too enjoyed them.
Hopefully this post hasn't put you off trying Muscle Mousse for yourself, if you have been good you could always ask Santa for a bag for Christmas and if you've been bad you will just have to buy it yourself!

How to avoid the supermarket snack trap!
I am sure I am not the only one who walks into the supermarket with truly virtuous intentions and ends up walking out with a bag for life full of sin!
Now how can you find the inner strength to avoid all your favourite snacks and snackettes that line the shelves with their seductive packaging and unbelievable special offers, why buy only one when you can buy three and get an extra one free? They are almost paying you to indulge, those unscrupulous bastards!
The answer is make a list and shop online!
Do your shopping while taking a dump instead of blasting out Candy Crush, you could even describe it as designing your next bowl movement.
Without being bombarded by all the smells, nagging children and partners while battling your primal need to devour those six jam doughnuts because you skipped lunch and now feel you may starve to death if you don't consume a thousand calories in next fifteen seconds you while surely collapse you should be able to actually stick to your shopping list.Fingers crossed anyway!
If you are worried about your shopping arriving while you are out you can always chose to click and collect, still having to go into the super market can open you up to temptation so be sure to bring your crucifix to keep those high calorie devils away.
If you are a true technophobe then just make sure you go shopping on a full stomach other wise your will power will leave you for dust but that does raise the question of how you are reading my blog without the aid of a laptop of smart phone.

Brussel Sprouts
Love them or hate them, those mini cabbage looking things are bound to make an appearance on your plate other this, the most festive of seasons!
I personally like sprouts, I just boil the funk out of them and slather on some gravy or cheese sauce and hope the gale force wind that ensues the next day doesn't blow the walls down but even if you don't like them you should get some down your gullet and here's why:
Sprouts can lower your cholesterol, you get the biggest benefit when you steam them.
Helps protect your body from certain cancers.
High in vitamin K which is used to help your blood clot, helps stop the hardening of arteries and helps to prevent certain cancers and improves bone health.
High in vitamin C.
Boosts testosterone levels.
Good source of fibre.
Can help your skin look healthier and younger.
Helps protect your eyes.
Boost your metabolism.
Help control inflammation and repair blood vessels .
Help detoxify your body.
When the dreaded sprout rears it's silly little self man up and get chomping because you'll grow up big and strong if you do!

Twist Protein Coffee
I was sent some Twist Protein Coffee to review and not being being a coffee drinking I was a bit hesitant to give it a whirl but since it was kindly sent to me for free I gave it a whirl and I am really glad that I did!
I really enjoyed the smell, mild coffee taste, sweetness of the drink, the distinct lack of lumps that I normally end up with when I have protein shakes and the caffeine buzz was quick and strong.
I found it easy and convenient to make, you just add water and shake it like a Polaroid picture! If you get stuck the instructions are on the label
I did try and the coffee hot and I enjoyed the flavour even more!
To heat it I mixed the power with cold water in the bottle and transferred it into my favourite mug and microwaved it for 30 seconds, you have to be careful when heating it to avoid the drink from curdling.
I have not come across Twist Protein Coffee in any retail outlets as of yet but I will certainly keep my eye out for it, in the mean time you can check out there online store by clicking here
You get almost the same amount of caffeine as in a red bull without all the sugar and calories plus the added protein which makes it a drink to have pre work out.
The only negative I could say about Twist Protein Coffee is that the bottle leaked a little when I was shaking it about like I was in a 90s style rave.
I would highly recommend Twist Protein Coffee to any coffee lovers out there and even if you aren't the biggest lover of coffee like myself, give it a whirl and broaden your horizons.

Muscle Mousse Cookies
I had a practise run at making some cookies for when Saint Nicolas pours himself down my chimney and thought to myself "What does good Santa need while lugging about his giant sack and flitting from roof top to roof top?"
The answer being protein! So I busted out the Muscle Mousse and tossed in a scoop.
I got the recipe from BakingMad.com, click the link below if you want to check out their other recipes:
https://www.bakingmad.com/simple-chocolate-cookies-recipe/
112g of butter
Method:
Pre heat your oven to 180ºc ( 160ºc for a fan assisted oven or gas mark 4)
Cream together butter and sugar
Sieve in Muscle Mousse and flour into your sugar and butter mix
Separate out the mix into equal sized balls and put them on a baking tray with grease proof paper or tinfoil.
Flatten out your balls with the back of a spoon, if you don't space them far enough apart then they will spread out and fuse together, this is what happened to mine but I just used a cutter to make individual cookies because I am a culinary genius!
Press in your chocolate chips or fruit and nuts if you are that way inclined!
Cook them for around 10 minutes then leave to cool for 15 minutes.
My cookies didn't turn out gooey they were crunchy and much better with a nice glass of milk. I did try and find a lovely festive cookie cutter but the pound shop let me down so I gave up.

Chargrilled Vests
When I first started going to the the gym I really struggled with my confidence, it's still not great now but thanks to sticking to it I gradually built myself up.
Well wonder no more! I stumbled upon www.Chargrilled.co.uk where they have loads of cool and funny designs and slogans.
So to make me feel better about people potentially laughing at for not being able to lift anything heavier than an empty bar when bench pressing I decided to invest in some absolutely hilarious vests so that if people did happen to stop and stare at me I could convince myself they were looking at my brilliant vest and not my lack of upper body strength, where to acquire such fantastic garments they must be wondering!
Well wonder no more! I stumbled upon www.Chargrilled.co.uk where they have loads of cool and funny designs and slogans.
I bought my Spartan vest for £15.95 with free delivery, it's a bit more pricey than what I would normally pay for a vest but anything that will make me feel more comfortable around the muscle bound men of the free weights area is worth spending more on.
The other 3 vests I bought were £25.52 which I used a voucher for that was sent with my first vest, Chargrilled regularly have deals and discounts on so if you are feeling the pinch money wise but still want to look dapper then keep an eye out or sign up to their mailing list.
The vests are 100% cotton and haven't faded in colour or printed even though I wear and wash them often.
Size wise I would go bigger than what you would normally wear, the first vest I bought is a medium which is a bit tight on me where the other 3 are large fit much better.
Perfect if you are struggling to find a gift this Christmas, and what better than clothes that will inspire you to join the new year new me January gym goers so check out the link:

Give these guys a look, remember you don't need a pretty face, the body of a god or even a personality when your tee shirt is busting out one liners packed with sass and humour!

Santa Dash
Since it's that time of year I though I would give back and take on the 5k Santa Dash around Leeds city centre, it cost £10 plus a donation of your choice to St Gemma's Hospice who support people with terminal illnesses and their families. There are Santa Dash's all over the England and hold 3 across the pond in America with the biggest being in Vegas.
If you fancy spreading some festive cheer and donning a Santa suit check out the website and see if there is an event local to you
http://www.santadash.co.uk/
Registration at the event was painless, I just gave my name and was a handed my Santa suit, which included trousers, a jacket, belt, hat and of course fluffy white beard!
Sadly the suits are supposed to be one size fits all but I think they were designed for the actual St Nicholas because it drowned me!
When I run it again next year I will bring my own belt as the one in the pack was next to useless in keeping the giant pants up or the jacket closed and when I tied the trousers I ripped them, guess I don't know my own strength!
If you sign up to a Santa Dash please understand that it is a fun run so if you have a strong competitive streak then you may find yourself frustrated being caught behind older folks and adorable baby Santa's.
There was a warm up but it wasn't great, we were stood at the back and couldn't hear what was going on and had to rely on copying the Mexican wave of Santa's bouncing about and dishing out Can Canesque leg kicks. I will try and donate a mega phone for next year, the poor cow shouting put the front was simply not loud enough to be heard.
The course was a loop of the pedestrian area of the Leeds city centre so you don't need to worry about getting mown down by some festive fool in a Ford escort as you try not to choke on the fluff from your faux beard!
All in all a good day that everyone of all abilities can enjoy and take part in, plus you get to keep what ever survived of your Santa suit!

Chocolate Muscle Mousse Muffins
Still baking with the Chocolate Muscle Mousse those delightful little devils at Muscle Mousse sent me, this time in muffin form!
I got the recipe from the BBC good food website, here's the link in case you want a gander:
The recipe isn't the most the healthy in the world but I was feeling cold and weak so in went the sugar and oil!
http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/2331641/basic-muffin-recipe
Ingredients:
2 medium egg
125ml vegetable oil
250ml of semi skimmed milk
200g golden caster sugar
400g of self raising flour
or the same amount of plain flour plus 3 tsp of baking powder
1 tsp salt
1 scoop of Chocolate Muscle Mousse
Any extras you want to add, chocolate chips, dried fruit etc etc
Heat oven to 200C/180C fan/gas 6.
Line 2 muffin trays with paper muffin cases.
In a large bowl beat the eggs lightly with a handheld electric mixer for 1 min, I went cave man style and used a hand whisk.
Add the oil and milk and beat until just combined then add the sugar and whisk until you have a smooth batter.
Sift in the flour and salt (and baking powder if using) then mix until just smooth, this is wear I added a scoop of Muscle Mousse, be careful not to over-mix the batter as this will make the muffins tough.
Stir in the chocolate chips or dried fruit if using. As I was feeling indulgent I went for chocolate!
Fill muffin cases two-thirds full and bake for 20-25 mins, until risen, firm to the touch and a skewer inserted in the middle comes out clean.
If the trays will not fit on 1 shelf, swap the shelves around after 15 mins of cooking. Leave the muffins in the tin to cool for a few mins and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Muscle Mousse Chocolate Cheese Cake
This is another recipe I made using the Chocolate Muscle Mousse that those delight little devils at Muscle Mousse sent me!
Again this is a pretty easy recipe as I have not become a master chef over night, I got this recipe from the Mousse Kitchen on the Muscle Mousse website check it out here!
The recipe is for a backed cheese cake but I just chilled mine, added some chocolate drops for a bit of class and said job done!
Ingredients:
4 scoops of Muscle Mousse
1 tbsp of cocoa
300g low fat cream cheese
500g of quark
200g digestive biscuits
2 tbsp of peanut butter or coconut oil ( I thought I had peanut butter in my cupboard, but I didn't so I used butter, true story! )
2 tbsp of peanut butter or coconut oil ( I thought I had peanut butter in my cupboard, but I didn't so I used butter, true story! )
Take your biscuits and finely crush them; either by putting them into a sandwich bag and attacking them with a rolling pin, or if possible, with a blender. Separately melt the peanut butter/ coconut oil using a pan or microwave and then stir in the crushed biscuits until fully coated. Pour into an 8 inch loose bottomed cake tin and press down as tightly as possible.
Now into a separate bowl, add your quark, cream cheese, cocoa, & Muscle Mousse. Beat the bowl as hard as you can as you’ll need to ensure there are no lumps of powder remaining.
Pour the mixture onto the biscuit base and level it out, them whack it in the fridge and leave it for at least 4 hours.
I found the cheese cake quite heavy and as I have mentioned in other posts sugar has properly destroyed my sense of taste so I would add some sugar sorry, not sorry!

Muscle Mousse Pancakes
I was kindly sent some Chocolate Muscle Mousse by those lovely people at Muscle Mousse to use in my baking.
There are other flavours available so check out their shop if this recipe inspires you to make some protein packed pancakes!
They also have some recipes in there Moose Kitchen so please give them a gander even if you just appreciate a bit of food porn!
Here's a link to their site
I got this recipe from Protein Chef, here's the link
I didn't follow the recipe word for word mainly because I had wheat flour in my cupboard and I forgot to add the baking powder!
Ingredients:
80g of plain white flour
1 egg
25g of Muscle Mousse, 1 scoop.
Water, I used 200ml but the recipe asks for you to add little by little until you make a pourable batter.
Really simple instructions which is great for me because I am hardly Mary Berry.
Just plonk everything into a bowl, whisk it together until it bubbles then fry in a pan! I did attempt to toss my pancakes but it was all a bit embarrassing!
This recipe is quick, easy and you can top your pancakes with anything you like so stop reading and get baking!

Primal Stampede 2015
Right off the back of completing Tough Mudder me and our Irene signed up for Primal Stampede an urban assault course right in our back yard at the Leeds Docks and with a price tag of £20 for 3.5 km, 2 laps and 10 obstacles to complete we thought it would be as easy as a stroll down the canal!
Run by Primal Gym in Leeds with the help of local sponsors and dedicated volunteers we had a fun, if not soggy day with make shift obstacles ranging from carrying a sand, scaling an 8ft wall and wading through skips of cold, muddy water the team did an excellent job of making the best use of the space available to them, with some obstacles working out better than others, the slip n slide being a nice idea and a welcome change of pace but it practice unless you are part penguin no one was ever going slide much more than half way, in fact Irene choose to walk it!
Everyone set off in heats which was decided by the colour of your headband and letter of the alphabet, we were late as the registration process took a longer than expected, bearing in mind we had come been down to the gym the day before to confirm times etc and the 15 minute recommendation was not too little time for the amount of people queueing to sign wavers and collect their head bands so we had to wait another hour before we could set off in the next orange heat.
With this being the first year of Primal Stampede and hopefully not the last I hope in future we are given the option having our waver emailed before hand .
We stood in a tent with a smoke machine for company as we were instructed to jump up and down and get pumped then off we went, running through tires and off into the distance.
Luckily Primal gym offer free use of their changing rooms and showers, although you will have to pay a deposit to use the lockers.
If you really can't face crawling under a cargo net in possibly the most grit filled muddy water I have ever come across then you can pay with 10 burpees! With me and Irene not doing any training in the 3 weeks between Tough Mudder and Primal Stampede we certainly felt it the next day but no where near a bad as after Tough Mudder!
It's a shame the canal couldn't be incorporated into the course and sadly due to the local residents the volunteers had to keep their encouragement on the quiet side.
I did feel a little robbed when the price of the tee shirts were lower by 50% the day after the event but with all the profits going to Cash for Kids and the Jane Tomlinson Appeal, free photos from the day and a goody bag, I couldn't stayed annoyed for that long, what can I say? I loves me a bargain!

Tough Mudder August 2015
I completed my second Tough Mudder on Sunday the 2nd of the August 2015 and this time I brought my friend Irene along for the ride! Although I pestered other friends and family all year long to commit to to getting involved Irene was the only one who put her money where her mouth is and she gets out of breath just thinking about running for a bus then has to have a cigarette to get over the stress of it all!
And so we began training! We did a mixture of cardio, body weight training and resistance work, gradually building up the distances we ran and intensity as Irene became fitter, seen as Tough Mudder is all about team work I had to make our workout outs work for her fitness when it came to the cardio but could really focus increasing both of our strength levels.
On the day of the event I had had a terrible nights sleep and was coming down with a bug that have been so kindly gifted to me by my house mate's girlfriend! Not a great way to start the day you have to run 17km all while getting soaked in water, electrocuted, frozen and of course being caked in mud!
But hey ho! A couple of litres of coconut water, some porridge, some caffeine and the adrenaline from what we were about to under take was all that I needed to be ready to rock this mother!
After having a little wonder around the mudder village we heading to the warm up area, so off came my tee shirt! I had learnt from the year before that the less your wear the better as needless clothing just absorbs, holds and refuses to dry the cold and muddy water you collect during the course.
The obstacles of note were of course Arctic Enema which you now have to go down a slide to enter the frozen water and promptly go into shock like me and Irene both did then had some man trying to force to swim under the tire barrier that had been created well before we had recover.
King of the swingers is a game of wills between you and your basic instinct not to throw yourself into the air onto a swing in an attempt to hit a bell then plummet into the cold water below, with myself having an aversion to heights and Irene having issues with water I am really proud that we both took this on, even if Irene had to be rescued!
Funky Monkey is a set of monkey bars on steroids! First you have traditional bars then have to transition on to a trapeze swing and then on to a single tube, I thankfully completed them without a dip in the drink below, Irene worried about the added height above the water chose to jump in and enjoy the swim!
After waiting since last year to do the more high profile obstacles on the Legionnaires Loop I have to say I was bitterly disappointed that all that was added was a another set of monkey bars with a slight twist which by passed the electroshock therapy, not great when Tough Mudder advertise fire and water slides.
All in though I would fully recommend anyone of any shape or size to give Tough Mudder a go, if you are not feeling confident find out if anyone you know is doing one and go as a spectator to get a feel for it, if it's the cash you are worried about you can always volunteer for a huge discount!

My progess August 2015
I completed my second Tough Mudder at Skipton in Yorkshire on the 2nd of August 2015 and used this event as my dead line to lower my body so I could improve on my performance on last year and of course to look good in the photos!
For the purpose of my blog I attempted this in the laziest way possible to show my readers that to make a change in your body you don't need to let food and exercise rule your life, although if I had prescribed to a more disciplined attitude in the kitchen I would of have much reduced my body fat much further.
No endless meal prep and no strict diet, I just made a conscious decision to eat better and coupled it with a training plan of my own design to get ready for the 12 mile mud run I had signed up for!
My meals were all quite simple recipes and would like to say I stayed away from every cake and take away that came my way but I didn't!
Modern life you are bombards us with temptation and to deny yourself every treat and vice for the rest of your life would be a boring existence in my indeed.
You may be walking around with the physique of Greek god but your face would be doling out the stink eye to anyone who dared eat a jaffa cake in your presence!
I would say on the whole I ate "healthy" 6 nights most weeks but fell off the waggon a few times when Birthdays cropped up or when I was generally stressed I managed to transform cheat meals into cheat weeks!

I quit the gym I was working in and bought some kettlebells and got myself outside more, taking advantage of Yorkshires hills, scenery and temperamental weather.
Luckily for me I was also training my team mate Irene for her first mud run which also helped me stay motivated.
If you feel self conscious about hitting the gym or going for a run then get a friend roped in or hire a personal trainer if your pals are fitnessphobes.

Although I am not completely happy with my results, I don't know many people who ever are, I am glad I gave it a go and hopefully showed that by calorie counting, making better choices when it comes to what you eat (the majority of the time) and exercising regularly you can have a marked improvement in your body and your confidence.

Mystic Spray Tan
So I went I had a spray tan!
Have you ever seen a body builder on competition day and noticed they are violent shade of nuclear orange? Well the power of the tan, coupled with some major hair removal and strategic will show off much more definition than what you would get if you were rocking the albino Chewbacca look!
With this in mind I took the plunge and got myself my very own spray tan! I choose to use a Mystic Spray Tan booth for £10 at the appropriately named The Tanning Shop in Leeds City Centre.
I chose to try the Mystic spray tan for two reasons, I don't have to stand there in an embarrassing virtually see through paper thong in front of a stranger, in fact I could forgo the thong all together and happily go naked and avoid any tan lines!
I popped into a little room, was instructed to cream up my knees, elbows and the end of my fingers, taught the hand positions I need to do during the tan and slapped on a charming blue hair net, I must admit I looked glorious!
After I creamed myself up I slipped on the disposable sandals provided, positioned myself on the dance mat inspired foot pads and pressed the start button.
Luckily the spray starts from your feet and works it's way up so no need to worry about being unexpectedly blinded on your journey to unleashing your inner bronzed god! Then a disembodied voice instructed me to move to the different numbered foot positions which would be all good and well but without my glasses I am rendered as blind as Velma from Scooby doo when she is similarly without her spectacles, coupled with slipping out of the sandals I feared I would fall, break my neck and be discovered an hour later, naked and half tanned!
After the tan was completed I had to wipe off the excess tan from my hands, and seen as the tan doesn't activate for 8 hours I did a less the superb job of it!
Other than the patchy, orange brown palms, smears on my knees, elbows and orange big toe nails the only other issue I found was that I think I may of been a touch too tall for the machine as it didn't quite cover my forehead, apparently I needed to of used much more cream to prevent my patchy hands!
The before and after of my tan doesn't look all that dramatic for two reasons, lighting makes a massive difference how defined you look and how dark the tan is, I went for a light tan when I re-review the Mystic spray tan I will do for a medium and post the results as get a picture of me sporting the fantastic little hair net that I was provided with!.
All in all though I found this is be a good way to get a spray tan, particularly if you are self conscious about being stood in an enclosed space, with all your bits and bobs out in front of a stranger who is spraying all your nooks and crannies.

Low calorie frozen dessert!
Looking for a low calorie, slightly indulgent dessert that won't cost you the world? Well look no further than this trick you can pull to stop you from devouring an entire tub of Ben and Jerrys!
Freeze mousses! With mousses generally being low calories and come in little pots to help you track your calories you can't really go wrong, I know I don't have the will power to return a tub of ice cream to the freeze, once it's out it is getting devoured in one disgusting, gluttonous session!
I froze ski mousses, with 77 calories per pot I could do much worse and seen as they come in individual pots I can still feel like a man by consuming all that lay before me with add an inch to my waistline, just pop them in the freezer and leave them for about 4 hours and they are ready to go.

No bake protein cheese cake
Ingredients for the base:
Light digestive biscuits 225g
Light butter 125g
Ingredients for the topping:
Light Philadelphia 270g, I am going to try Quark in the future and see how that turns out!
Flavoured Protein powder 75ml ( I used strawberry )
Method:
Sling your biscuits into a bowl or double bag them in a sandwich bag and knock the funk out of the them with a rolling pin or if you happen to Chuck Norris you can use your mighty fists of fury to pulverise them into dust!
Next melt your butter, I just put it into the microwave for 30 seconds in a bowl and had done with it, I simply have no time to be messing around with the hob!
Mix the butter and crushed biscuits together into a bowl, I used a fork as my whisk kept getting clogged up!
Do this until the biscuits have fully absorbed the butter.
Next put your buttery, biscuit mulch into a cake tin and spread it all out until it covers the the bottom of the tin and is nice and even, I used a spoon to even it all out, now put the base in the fridge while you crack on with base!
Onto the topping!
Pop your philly into a bowl, scoop in your protein powder and mix it all up! Once fully mixed in spoon your mixture onto your cooled base, smooth it out and leave it over night in the fridge to make sure it properly sets.
There you go! Job done!
Now I know this recipe is quite calorific but it's here as an alternative to a full fat cheese cake, you are going to want a slab of cheese cake at some point so if you are going to be indulgent you can aim for the lesser of two evils! I had my friends act as guinea pigs for the taste test and they said this recipe is just as good a traditional cheese cake, although on second attempt I did use chocolate digestive biscuits, but I hunted for the lowest calorie option the shop had to offer, you may be surprised in the difference between one biscuit brand and another.
Veet hair removal spray
There are two big things you can do to help show off your definition and those mighty gains you have been crafting at the iron church, tanning and hair removal!
I have to admit I do shave more than most guys would probably admit too but for the purpose of this review I took the plunge and used Veet hair removal spray on my legs as I needed a good amount of hair to properly see how good the product, those gorilla genes seemed to of stayed with my father!
I picked the Veet up for £5.99 from my local Morrisons and used a self service till to avoid any potential embarrassment!
I feel it's priced well and does exactly what it says on the tin! Using the spray made me feel like a hoodlum slapping my tag on a wall near the train station and would almost call it fun if it wasn't for the smell!
It's great for reaching those harder to reach places like the back of my leg, especially when compared to the cream and shaving, I haven't been brave enough to try out a wax or sugaring I will leave that review to some other brave blogger!
The only down sides I found, other than the smell which I have already mentioned is that higher on your leg you can't really control where the spray goes to so you may end up with some slight chemical burns on more sensitive areas...yes I am talking about genitals!!!! You had to go and make me say it didn't you! The burns only lasted about a day and no hair was left in piece by this hair disintegrating acid!
The other downside was there simply wasn't quite enough in the canister, like I mentioned I am hardly the living embodiment of Chewbacca and I don't feel I was out of control with how liberally I was applying the spray but it managed about one leg and three quarters of the other, I am 6 foot tall though so maybe my endless legs where just too much for it and you may have better luck?
The results were amazing, no rash, no irritation, no stubbly regrowth, no hair left at all! If you can handle the smell go out and whack some in your shopping basket and unleash your hairlessness on the world!

Quinoa Porridge
Ingredients:
100g of quinoa
180ml of semi skimmed milk
First pour your quinoa into a pan of your chose and put it on the hob over a medium heat and cook until it has browned, you will have to stir it often to stop it from burning, while I was browning the quinoa it popped like popcorn!
Once you are happy that your quinoa is suitably toasted then add your milk, bring to boil then let it simmer until your grains are soft and at your desired consistency, I added cinnamon at this point then one I had got the porridge into my into my bowl I added a spoon full of honey, but like porridge made from oats you can be as creative as you like!
My porridge has a nutty taste and a bit of bite to it, I have never had quinoa porridge before so I have nothing to compare mine to but I did enjoy it and given the chose I would take quinoa porridge over oats.
Nutritionally quinoa destroys oats with higher protein, vitamin B-3, fibre, iron, calcium, folate, zinc, vitamin E and magnesium so it's worth giving it ago and seeing what you think!

Muscle Mousse
Muscle Mousse are doing a promotional tour of the country giving away free samples of there delicious protein dessert so once I had spied this on good old twitter I headed out!
I have been wanting to Muscle Mousse for quite a while now but with tubs costing £32.99 on their website, although else where on the web you can find it for around £20, I have been putting it off!
Muscle Mousse comes in milk chocolate, peanut-choc caramel, strawberry, milky white chocolate, butterscotch and banana.
Clearly I should be a model |
I am sure this was just a ploy to make me feel even more ridiculous.
The guys at the stall were great considered how all over the place I was!
They answered the few questions I could remember an gave me more information without being further prompted, luckily for me their website is, much like the tee shirt of the salesman, is full of information to feast your eyes upon! The moose kitchen will get some use out of me as I will to make and eat cheese cakes.

All the ingredients are transparent apart from Lactospore® and Digezyme®, which if I had checked their about me section first I would of leaned that Lactospore® are probiotics and Digezyme® is an enzyme, there is also no gluten in sight!
Protein content wise Muscle Mousse more than doubles the protein for the same amount of Whey Hey protein ice cream but more than 3 times as many calories so you may need to consider this depending on your goals.
But how did it taste I hear you complain!
Well really liked it and if I hadn't of just had a spout of ill health recently I would of happily bought some and paraded it through the mean streets of Leeds! I tried the banoffee flavour and can't fault either flavour, texture or taste!
I would highly recommend you give Muscle Moose a go and if you are lucky enough to live in the UK try and catch them on there tour of the country, with all dates available on their facebook page!

Gillette Fusion Proglide (manual)
I hate that I can't quite manage to get every last hair, I hate how my skin gets irritated, how time consuming it is and most of the price of decent razors, with all that in mind I am always on the look for for better ways to tame my face so when I spied Gillette latest offering promising their best shave ever for £10 in Snainsburies I had to have it!
I have to say I think Gillette have put their money where their mouth is this time! I am a long time customer of Gillette, with it being my preferred brand and the flex ball makes all the difference to my shave.
If you are prone to ingrown hairs I would proceed with caution as multiple blades can make this worse other than that go out and try one for yourself!

Liquid Calories
Trying to lose weight by eating like a saint but not getting the results you desire? You might need to look at what you are putting into your glass!
I have already done a post on the calories in alcohol but that doesn't mean all drinks are calories free!
That healthy smoothie you have been wrapping your lips round will be full of sugar, it's natural sugar! I hear you protest! Well your muffin top doesn't care, calories are calories at the end of the day!
Yes smoothies are a great way to get those lovely antioxidants and vitamins into your system so you should not give up smoothies and fruit juices, you can however make better choices.
Berries typically have fewer calories than fruits and have more antioxidants and you don't need to just think about fruit and berries, veggies can be blended into smoothies
When calorie counting I use water as a bench mark for when I am feeling indulgent, so when I think Oh! I will grab a coke I think that's 139 times the calories I would get from the same amount of water!
Read every label you come across! The calories might just surprise you!
